Day 42

Chance received his third trim today. His sole is showing the definite beginnings of concavity and is starting to toughen up. His booting program will be adjusted to assist him along in building more frog and sole and toughening up the deep digital cushion.

The founder flares on his hoof wall (also called slippers) were removed to eliminate their tendency to function as a lever in prying the coffin bone away from the new hoof wall as it grows out.

Pre-trim: Founder flare (slipper)
is evident on both feet

Post trim, the founder flare was removed
to prevent it from prying new hoof wall
away from the coffin bone
