Chance (aka Buckwheat), a 7-year old performance reining horse, came to the Rehab Clinic on July 15, 2008 suffering from Navicular Syndrome so severe that, after months of conventional treatment and a very poor prognisis by his attending vet, he was scheduled to be put down to end his suffering.
At the eleventh hour, Chance was given his second chance and he arrived at the Equine Rehabilitation Clinic to start his journey back to natural soundness.
An MRI taken on June 25, 2008 revealed major problems in Chance's front feet, including severe navicular bone marrow edema, changes in the surface of the navicular bone, degeneration of navicular ligaments, and extensive tears in his right deep digital flexor tendon within the hoof and pastern areas.

Our approach with Chance at the Equine Rehabilitation Center has been to restore the natural balance and function of his feet, and in so doing (with the help of controlled exercise and nutritional support) assist his body to heal itself. |
