We moved to Tehachapi in July of 2007 and at that time I decided to take the shoes off my horse and try barefoot. My daughter was very skeptical of the whole barefoot thing and felt we would have to have different farriers, but I convinced her to give it a try. She was sure her horse’s feet would not hold up to being barefoot.

Both horses had no down time with Steve’s trimming methods. They were a little sensitive the first couple months, but still very ridable.

Now 11 months later their feet are hard as rocks, look beautiful and my daughter is a believer. Her horse’s feet were extremely contracted and very soft. They are now large, hard as rocks and look great.

The true test for us was a camping trip we took in March. The place we went is very rocky, lots of riverbed trails. We hoof tested the horses the day we got back and they were not sore at all and they had not chipped.

We are very happy we have our horses barefoot now, it is healthier for them, less expensive and you don’t ever have to worry about a ruined ride or trip because of losing a shoe.

We strongly recommend Steve Karshner’s Natural Hoof Care and are so glad we have our horses barefoot.
